Contemporary House Extension in Derbyshire
This project involved the design of a contemporary extension to an existing home in Derbyshire, creating additional living space and a stronger relationship between the interior and garden.
The proposals were developed in response to the proportions, character and layout of the existing property. The aim was to improve the way the home functions for modern family life while introducing a clearly defined architectural addition that complements the original building.
The internal arrangement was reorganised to create more open, flexible and light-filled living spaces. Generous areas of glazing bring natural light deeper into the plan, frame views of the garden and provide a direct connection to the external terrace and landscaped grounds.
The extension uses a carefully considered palette of materials and refined detailing to distinguish the new work while maintaining a balanced relationship with the existing house. The form and scale were designed to feel contemporary without overwhelming the original property.
The resulting design provides a more practical and enjoyable family home, combining improved internal circulation, natural light and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.
